Christina Aguilera Embraces Life as a “Fat Girl”

The woman made famous for her amazing voice has been getting much more attention lately for her voluptuous figure. Thirty-one-year old performer and mother Christina Aguilera is much curvier than she was when she first burst onto the scene as a teenage singing sensation in 1998.
Earlier this year, Christina was slammed for her weight after making concert appearances in scantily clad ensembles revealing a much curvier figure. Specifically, she drew much attention for her appearance at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert after uncomfortably donning a tight corset and fishnet stockings during her performance.
The star admitted to drinking more after going through her divorce from former husband of five years, Jordan Bratman, and being lax on her diet.
Her poor diet choices and junk food binge eating slip-ups added up to lots of extra calories and plenty of weight gain. As a result, Aguilera’s weight has fluctuated drastically over the last several years.
Proof of this came just months after her Michael Jackson Tribute appearance when she was photographed looking much slimmer and seemingly “back on track” in terms of her health and her size.
Prior to this slim down, Aguilera also managed to lose more than 40 pounds after the birth of her son, Max. The star reportedly relied on breastfeeding and a restricted diet of 1,800 calories to slim down, in addition to 90 minute training sessions numerous times a week with a personal trainer.
Since then, however, it seems Aguilera isn’t focused so much on weight loss as she is settling into more of a happy medium when it comes to her size. In a sense, she’s coming to terms with being at a weight that’s more realistic for her in the long run.
As reported by People Magazine, Aguilera has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and feels she no longer needs to remain at a certain size to prove her worth. Instead, she’s owning her body and embracing her curves.
In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, the star opened up about no longer working under a music label that constantly criticizes her size. “You are working with a fat girl: Know it now and get over it,” she said.
Reflecting on how her fluctuation in weight was received, Aguilera said, “The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings. Let me tell you, that wasn’t an easy pill for them to swallow. Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight – the production, the musical directors.”
Despite any resistance she’s faced in the past, Aguilera is confident with where she now stands. In another recent interview,  The Voice judge said,  ”As long as I’m happy in my own skin…that’s all the confirmation I need. I’m happy where I am, I have a boyfriend that loves my body, I love my body, my son is healthy and happy. That’s all that matters.”
Aguilera’s latest project is a new album called Lotus, which is due for release in November. Of the opening track titled “Your Body,” Aguilera says, “They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body.”
