How Premenstrual Tension Affects You

By Leann Cooney

Women all over the world are suffering from premenstrual tension and many do not even realize it. Premenstrual tension, also known as PMT, encompasses all the symptoms that women experience prior to a period. These can happen anywhere from ten to 14 days before a period. While many women do not realize they are suffering from PMT, more than 75 percent of all women experience PMT symptoms.

Symptoms of PMT can be physical or psychological, and come in varying degrees. Some women experience more severe symptoms while other women have much less intense symptoms. The physical symptoms include food cravings, headaches, acne, swelling in the joints, bloating, fatigue, and weight gain. Psychological symptoms include depression, decrease in sex drive, insomnia, mood swings, lack of focus, and sadness. Women can have just a few or all of these symptoms in any combination.

We all know when these symptoms hit, but do you really know why they are happening? Most women do not. These symptoms happen because of an imbalance in the hormones of the body. During this time of the month, the progesterone levels fall while salt increases. This imbalance happens when there is a lack of vitamins in the body.

The symptoms of PMT are not life threatening, but for the women experiencing them, they are incredibly uncomfortable and annoying. Luckily, there are some easy ways to reduce the effects of PMT. The first of these is to avoid stress. Stress causes an even greater hormone imbalance, so it is best to reduce stress during this time. Avoid salt for less water retention. Avoid alcohol because it reduces the nutrient levels in the body. Increase the levels of vitamins in your diet to keep the hormone levels balanced.

A lot of research has been done on the correlation between PMT and nutrients. The findings show that women who get adequate doses of Evening Primrose Oil, vitamin B6, vitamin B, magnesium , and wild yam has noticeably lower rates of PMT. This is great news for women because there are many supplements on the market designed to give women the combination of nutrients they need to stop premenstrual tension symptoms from occurring. These supplements are all natural and do not have any side effects so women can treat their PMT symptoms without the worry of harmful side effects. Stop PMT now and forever.
