Individuals can participate in different types of sports. Gymnastics in Delaware being one popular type; it involves the use of co-ordination, balance, agility, flexibility and power. This sport is governed by an international body which takes care of the welfare of all athletes and also ensure that they follow the set guidelines. However, rules vary from country to country or from state to state.
Different categories exist in this particular sport and include; women artistic gymnastics, group and acrobatic. Each category has their number events. These events are; vaults, uneven beams, balance beam, floor exercise, high bar, parallel bar and pommel horse.
In the female category all the participants are ladies; the participants can be as young as seven years old. However the minimum age for one to be eligible in an Olympics event is sixteen years. The ladies must have strong psychological skills because the tricks performed are difficult and involve intense pressure. Women mostly compete in four events.
Unlike the female event, the male competition requires athletes to have reached the age of puberty because of the strength that is needed in carrying out the tricks. However, for boys to take part in Olympic events they need to be above sixteen years. This does not mean that boys under the age of sixteen cannot participate locally. In this sport events in the male category are more than those in the female category, there are a total number of six.
Rhythmic performance requires the participants to manipulate ballet and dance moves. Performances involved are jumps, leaps and tosses using apparatus such as ropes, ribbons, hoops and balls. Athletes can participate in groups or as individuals; this is a woman-only sport.
Both men and women can participate in trampoline events. Athletes are allowed to perform individually or in pairs, however if in pairs then the athletes are required to complete synchronized moves. The moves involved are high-flying twists and flips with each bounce.
Olympics do not include tumbling events. However, it is performed both locally and internationally. The category involves a bouncing spring board. The bouncing surface allows the participant to do very complicated twists and flips which makes it more interesting. Two passes must be performed at each stage and each pass includes eight elements.
Acrobatics is unique from the other types in that the participants are regarded as the equipment. They perform in pairs of twos to fours; they do handstands, balances and holds on each other. The pairing may be all men, all women or a mix in gender; it is also not an Olympic event yet.
