Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet?

By James Pierce

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can take in are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These will be the food items that should give us the energy and protein we need. They keep people nutritionally well balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to lose our fat at the gym. Did you already know, though, that some of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly acceptable by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They could even be making you gain more weight! Check out a few of the ingredients that might be helping you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks do not actually help you. You've possibly been thinking that the sports drink is the easiest way to help your body feel better after a workout. Most physicians recognize, however, that if your workout is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are full of sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don't need including artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Choose chocolate milk for your drink as an alternative. The sugar inside the chocolate will help your muscles start to heal and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip the protein shakes. So many people assume that drinking a protein shake is a good way to halt cravings when it isn't meal time. What you are actually doing, particularly if the majority of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Contrary to popular belief, protein doesn't get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This implies that when you have taken in an excessive amount of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not very healthful at all. You may possibly believe that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has much too many preservatives plus sodium (one portion contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This will be specifically unsafe if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of buying the pre-packaged products, you need to instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure these are generally a lot more expensive options but they are tremendously healthier for you.

There are all kinds of things that we believe will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, by way of example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask a medical expert which foods are best for you and then have those. If you are very careful about what you eat and are good to your body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
