Simple Steps To Start Your Writing Career

By Raymond Walter Rodriguez

For a long time, people have dreamed of working from home. Doing something to avoid the pain of going into the office every day. Now, it appears that day has come. What is this wonderful job that more and more people are tapping into? Writing! Because there is so much demand today for competent writers, it's easier than ever to find some consistent work. In this article you'll learn exactly what you need to do to build up your skills and start making some real money.

Naturally, if you want to sell your writing, you've got to write. How often? Every day. How much? At least a thousand words. If you can't do that now, don't worry. You'll find it gets easier and easier. Just like exercising, it may seem difficult at first, but after a while you get the hang of it. And instead of feeling sore, you'll just start thinking of new and exciting things to write.

This will happen a lot faster with writing, because you won't have sore muscles or anything like that. The more you write, the easier it will get. Your first goal should be to write about anything, for at least one thousand words a day. That's only two articles like this one. Easy, right?

Your next step is to publish your writing. This is a lot different. Suddenly you'll be writing with a whole you mind set. After all, everybody in the whole world can read what you write. The Pope might even be surfing the net and come across your post. Obviously, this is a lot different than just writing whatever thoughts come to mind. You'll actually have to be somewhat organized, and make some kind of point. At first it will seem scary and difficult, but it will soon become comfortable and easy.

Once you're OK with publishing stuff on a blog, you're ready to start writing for article directories. These will be actually edited by humans, with a chance that you'll get rejected. So your focus will become even more sharp. Choose several topics of interest, and write to provide some clear and definite value to the reader.

Now you're ready to sort through all your stuff. If you've been writing for a couple months, you should have at least five to ten articles that are pretty good. You can use these to build out your portfolio. You'll need your own website, but this is pretty easy. Wordpress is a good content management system. It's easy, free and there are plenty of online tutorials.

Now you've got the skill, and the portfolio. You're ready to apply for jobs. There are literally hundreds of places online where people are looking for talented writers just like you. Just drop in, show off your stuff, and start getting clients. Before you know it, you'll be a professional writer making a good income.
