Social Media Networking And The End Of 3D TV

By Rob Sutter

While television itself is not going to die out anytime soon, I don't know if the same can be said about 3D TV. Do not get me wrong; the idea of it is a novel one and, at least in theory, it could have been something that paved the way for the future. With the recent news of it slowly being phased out, I cannot help but feel like my suspicions of it being nothing but a passing gimmick are being realized. Social media networking experts will most likely take note.

The BBC has recently made the announcement that it would be cancelling its 3D programming, which has to be a devastating blow to those who thought that this would be the wave of the future. If you were to ask me, though, I cannot help but think that this has shown just how much of a novelty it was. Yes, it's fun for a lark and I am sure that some will get more of a kick out of it than others. However, to call it a way of the future would be nothing short of a lie.

If you want another example of the feature of 3D not being utilized as much, look at the Nintendo 3DS. As an owner of this particular system, I can tell you that it is worth the investment and the library of games is only going to continually build over the course of time. However, to say that I play with 3D on most of the time would be a lie. I cannot help but feel like this has done more to hurt my experiences with gaming, seeing as how my focus has been broken thanks to the intricate visuals.

While one cannot argue against the concept of 3D as a novelty, it's not something that's needed to full enjoy something. Whether you're talking about television, games, or even movies, it's not required and I'm sure that those in social media networking will be able to tell you the same. I never felt like my experience was changed in any way because of the presence of 3D, whether it was good or bad. I believe that it will only stay at the level akin to a toy, which is what firms such as fishbat may agree with.

You may be led to believe that I simply do not like 3D at all but I do see the value behind it. There is always going to be that group of people that has never experienced 3D technology before, no matter if you're talking about what they see on screen or within gaming experiences. However, it's not needed to fully enjoy what you're being supplied. It's meant to enhance it and I can only correlate the term "novelty" to it more than just about any other.
