About How To Build A Close Relationship With God

By Francis Riggs

Having a close bond through God for Christians is admirable and is a reflection of truly reborn heart. However in our lives we will never get to be that close to Him as we have to be or desire. This is tied to persistent sinning in our lives. Sin is a barrier which stands in the way of one to have a complete communion with God realized when we are in glory. Below are steps to guide Christians on how to build a close relationship with God.

The first step to take towards achieving this is making confession a daily habit. He has promised to forgive us once we confess the sins we have committed. It is forgiveness which reinstates any relationship that is or has been on the rocks.

It is however much more than just the word sorry. It must be a heartfelt contrition. The sinner should totally recognize their sins are an offense to God who is holy. They should realize that it was sin that led to Christ cruxification and their sins crucify Him all again.

People have closer moments to Almighty when they listen to Him. Many are still waiting for a supernatural experience of an encounter in God, but Peter says that the Bible is the surest way of listening to God. So people should read it regularly to know what he is speaking.

Prayer is another way too. This is how we speak to God. It is more than just asking God for what we want or need. The Psalms are mostly heartfelt cries of David to God which we can borrow from. There are supplications, thanksgiving, contrition and adoration modeled divinely.

A group of people who you will fellowship with is good also. Spiritual growth comes by means of regularly singing and praying with others. Having such meetings does not only improve your relation in God but also opens an opportunity to worship with the other Christians. Worshiping him together builds a better relationship.

Obedience is an important part of this. We must live a life of obedience. All biblical teachings on obedience are usually presented as how Christians respond to grace of our Lord received upon salvation. Salvation can never be earned through obedience though it is just a way of showing how much we love God and express our gratitude towards Him.

These undertakings seem really simple, simplistic even. But just like we how we go about on developing close relationships through our fellow human beings by conversing with them regularly, pouring our hearts to them, listening to them, sacrificing our needs to satisfy their and seeking forgiveness when we do wrong, this is the same things to be invested and done to get close to our Lord.
